Message : Well, Ijust had to do this because after seeing what you did, it reminded me of what I have already done. BTW: Great job on the install! I wonder if flying bugs will flatten out at cruising speeds when they hit the glass cover. It will blur the image, of course.

: But this Hirobo Condor .60 Helo fitted with an X-10 2.4GHz wireless camera downlinked to the ZPC computer's Intel USB camera (mounted just below rear view mirror) into the auxiliary video input (for this purpose only) allows a bird's eye view in my Z. Vik (vsaini) and I took my Z and hte helo down a long straight back country road and cranked her up.. I started the video capture (got one video from this on the ZPC) We then proceeded to fly the helo in front of the Z, out about 50ft. and maybe 30ft off the ground at about 52MPH top speed. We did it in two 2mi. stretches and burned half a tank of fuel. I could only imagine the thoughts of the oncoming traffic when they saw a helo coming down the road like an oversized bug. Priceless entertainment. It could also be used as a recognisance (sp?) device too.. I want to mount another camera like it on the other side and get two small EL 1" screens to make a headset out of and have stereo-optic view of what the helicopter is seeing. :) Coming soon.

But, awesome install, nice and clean.. Not sure if I would leave it outside of the car though, someone is bound to see it and get thief-happy.

: : Ya know, I had the exact same Firebird growing up that was used for Knight Rider (the original)...black and all with a V6 automatic (they used 5 speeds for the burnout shots). Anyway, it's ironic that well after selling the car I'm becoming Michael Knight. I swear to god I'm going to start calling my car Kitt. All I need is a watch to talk into...

: : Anyhow, I installed the mini camera today. I had talked about doing this in the past, but didn't have the time. I found a local spy store that was willing to sell me demo product at a cut rate deal (that way I could justify the better model ;). I ended up with a color, bullet style, weatherproof 3.3mm wide angle lensed camera. It has day/low light/night capabilities (pitch dark requires the LED add-on for 15' of infrared sight that it will pick up). Honestly, the HIDs throw down enough light so I'll leave it like this for now. I drove around for a while and it started to get pretty dark and this thing worked great! And in the day, wow. Awesome resolution and auto-adjusting.

: : Why? Because I can, punk! Really though, I wanted to rush on this because of the LA Sports Car Run in July (check events SoCal peeps) so I could record the action. Sure, a video cam mounted is nice, but this is right at the road and I can just slap the VCR into the car with some tapes and record forever =) Not to mention I wont be hitting any parking stumps anymore.

: : Before you ask, the camera was $100 but normally retails for around $190 in this package. You can get black and
: : white and a multitude of other things for much less online.

: : Here are some pics of the install. It looks a little "rigged" but it's sturdy as a rock. I used bolts with nuts on the other end to secure it down and a thin bead of silicone on each of the treated brass brackets to further insure no movement. Man that urethane was easy to drill into...I'm glad it wasn't fiberglass! It's totally not visible from standing height and from a distance it's barely noticable.

: : Mounted in the upper right portion of the GTZ-R.

: :

: : The lines you see are only there because of the digicam picking them up. Not seen by the eye :)

: :

: : And of course, a video of it. This is from my digicam recording the screen...so the quality is MUCH higher normally. I just didn't feel like hooking up the VCR and vidcapping tonight.

: : Flyin low
